| easy to pass over, but don't. |
When I first read the email about this group I was really excited. After downloading the tracks a wave of disappointment came over me. So i put it off for awhile. I came back to it again, and then again. The songs grow on you, the infect you. Each listen brings a new element. The album as a whole goes off track at times, and you sometimes get the feeling of a disjointed vision between the songs. But the songs on their own right are interesting, layered, and rewarding. The opener 'wasted' has so many different tones and textures that it requires careful listening to appreciate it. 'opened up' follows and the albums tone has already shifted. But the song's optimisc (ish) lyrics are wroth a listen and the sparse arrangement is necessary. 'The creeping' is a brilliant acoustic track that catches you with its first note. The lilting melody is hypnotic, and the haunting vocals are enchanting. The tracks 'Soul Receivers' I find to be the weakes track on the album, especially when bookended by 'the creeping' and the amazing 'every light has blown'. 'lonely highs' seems to be out of place on the album, but is a great interpretation of an eels track. A great album that I am glad that I did not let slip by.
i really did not enjoy this artist ... too different for my liking ...
