Ehhh

Same ol'... same ol'. Felt very formulaic and typical of folk music. Most of the songs left me wondering where i'd heard them before.

Not too bad

Sounds like classic rock 'n' roll with a country flair. A couple songs remind me a little bit of Fountains of Wayne.

Enjoyable

I like their sound - upbeat, fun pop. 'Goodbye Midnight' has a Jenny Lewis sound. The opening of 'In the Underground' has an early Beatlesque feel to it. 'Reply' reminds me of Maggie, Pierce & EJ. 'Your Lie' chorus has that retro Beach Boys sound. Hidden track 'Sad Song' was okay.

Earthy, folksy sound

When listening to The Spring Standards, I really heard something that I haven't heard in awhile. Anyone familiar with the Christian music genre may know of a folk-roots-rock group named Caedmon's Call. Caedmon's Call has won several awards spanning both inspirational and secular genres and the formula that works for them is that they have a group of guys playing great grassy-roots style rock and power female lead vocal to set the tone. So does The Spring Standards. It is the type of music that is both earthy, with its use of subtle twang and a wide variety of instrumentation and rock, with the power chords of the likes of people as prolific as U2 and Dave Matthews Band. I found this to be a wonderful offering, full of soul-inspiring and searching anthems and fun, corn-cob pipe style fare.

fun, variety

i loved this album..found myself singing along everywhere i listened to it..car, home, etc. esp. 'Little Bug', had that on repeat: more of this is good.----'Breath & Sound' reminds me of artist Ellis, not a bad thing..just different.

Pretty Pretty

On first listen the Spring standards seem to be a collection of their influences. A blend of harmonies and folk infused melodies, their sound is interesting, fresh, and familiar. The female vocalist, has a prettiness that rivals the beauty of Priscilla Ahn's beautiful voice. The songs become better upon repeated listens, and the male vocals begin to standout, especially when paired with the harmonies. I found this EP to be interesting and would like to see what else will come of them.

not so much

It's a little too easy going for me. I don't know how to explain it, but I wouldn't consider this real folk, it's not raw enough, it's like pop folk . I don;t really enjoy either of the two singers voices either.
