Very Nice Album

This band has several outstanding qualities that are not foudn too often. The lyrics are enjoyable and easy to understand, while at the same time the music is easy to listen to.

So-so Sound

Album is good, but sound is not very original. They sound like any other group out there in the same genre and I personally think the music is a bit bland.

Good Southern Rock album that starts off well but loses its momentum.

I've never been partial to anything described as 'southern' but I think this album is an exception. It has a distinct country sound to it, but I don't think you can classify it as true-blue country music. I also think it's a rectangle in the enormous square hole of the rock genre. But like the kid with the leather jacket in the back of the class, I think 'not fitting in' is exactly what is appealing about it. I feel like I'm only describing the first 3/4ths of the album however. The first three tracks ride the line of country and rock perfectly with an upbeat tempo that makes you forget all about lines. I can see myself singing along to these on repeat plays. 'A Heartbeat' also is fast enough for my tastes and just as enjoyable. the rest of the tracks are slower, however, and I think with the exception of 'Big Light' they miss the mark. 'Big Light' proves it's not just the tempo as that ballad is excellent. It's as if they ran out of steam in the last four tracks the album.

Wilco-ish, and that's not such a bad thing

I didn't really get into this album until the last 4 songs, but those were exceptional so I gave all the tracks another listen and decided the whole thing wasn't half bad. I checked their site and they are from Chapel Hill, so I am surprised that I haven't heard of them coming to my area. I will keep my eye out for a show near me and hopefully check them out live soon.

Catchy from the beginning

From the first song played, I was interested. Eden Was a Garden is a great track to open the album with. It's upbeat and fun- makes me want to dance. The lead singer's voice is reminiscent of some of the great singer-songwriters of decades past. In one song, I thought he sounded a little like Bob Dylan. The music sounds like it could also be from another period in time, making this album sound timeless.

Instantly captured my attention.

Instantly peaked my interest with the first song and was an easy listen the whole way through. Wish I had the option to download. It was a good mix of folky, songwritery rock. I look forward to hearing more.

not bad but no big hooks to keep it from getting lost in the background

Absolutely nothing wrong with this band, however, there is not much that sets them apart positively. The singer's voice is folksy but almost doesn't seem to match the melody of the songs. This seems to cause the lyrics, which are great, to get drowned out and lost in the song. When playing this music, it's very easy to get distracted and not pay attention to it. The band appears to be talented, however, the music is very simple and boring with no real hooks to make you want to listen to any of the songs again.

better than the first

I am glad to have the chance to listen to and review roman candle again, I loved them last time and still do! I am amazed that they have not become more famous, the music has such a mass appeal and I feel is better written and sung then most of what's on the market today. Hopefully greater success will be in the future.

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this album-actually more than their last album! The songs blended well as a collection and there was a nice mix between slow and more upbeat. The vocals were great and felt comfortable without being bland. This sounded like a great Road Trip album. Thanks for bringing another Roman Candle album to FirstListen!

Need more time with this one...

I saw them live before hearing the album. I didn't care for the live show but the album is not bad. The voice is distinctive which I did not pick up on live. I am surprised, perhaps the sound was off at the live show, who knows. After the first few listens, I thought that the album was woth a second chance. The voice is interesting and the song writing is decent. I would only see them live again if they were opening for another band I liked. I need to spend more time with the songs. I will for sure give this record a few more spins and some time to marinate.
